Why Do I Keep Overthinking Everything?

Do you ever think about something...

then think about what you thought...

then question whether you should have thought that...

and somehow end up needing a holiday from your own brain?

Welcome to overthinking.

But what if overthinking isn't actually the problem?

What if your mind is trying to protect you?

After five years working with Emotion Code, Body Code and Belief Code, I've become increasingly interested in what sits underneath overthinking.

Your mind doesn't usually overthink for absolutely no reason.

It may be trying to find certainty.

Control.

Safety.

A guarantee that everything will work out.

If you've learned that mistakes aren't safe, uncertainty isn't safe or disappointing people isn't safe, your brain can become very good at analysing everything.

Overthinking can be an attempt to avoid feeling

Imagine making a big decision.

You could simply choose.

Instead, you spend three weeks researching.

Pros.

Cons.

Podcasts.

Google.

Another opinion.

Another spreadsheet.

Eventually you're exhausted.

Why?

Because making the decision means accepting uncertainty.

And uncertainty might bring up feelings you don't want to experience.

Fear.

Regret.

Disappointment.

Failure.

Judgement.

So your brain gives you something to do.

Think.

That's where Core Alignment comes in

Core Alignment is a membership program designed to help you understand what sits underneath patterns like overthinking.

Instead of simply asking:

"How do I stop thinking?"

you can ask:

"What am I afraid I'll feel if I stop thinking?"

That's a completely different question.

And it's one of the core ideas behind the Core Alignment approach.

You don't need to make your mind the enemy.

You need to understand what it's trying to protect you from.
